Awww winter days! …. I must admit that it has taken me several years to settle down from the warm climate of my country to the cold winter of Sydney.
But to be honest…rainy days always bring the perfect excuse to stay at home, cuddle under the blankets with a hot chocolate,a good book…and the children…
What? !! the children? !!!!! Oh, well if somebody could entertain the children would’t that be perfect , haha!
Actually it occurs to me that today we could make “play dough”. This trick has never fail to keep the kids busy for long periods of time, including the pre-teens at home. Yeap! including them.
Here is the recipe I use, just in case you are also looking for something to keep the kids busy and happy. -Enjoy!

Ingredients:
- 1 cup of salt
- 2 cups of plain flour
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- 4 teaspoons of cream of tartar
- 1 1/2 cups of water
- food coloring (Optional)
- Few drops of Glycerin ( Optional)
Method:
- Mix the flour, salt, cream of tartar and oil in a large mix bowl.
- Add the water to the dry ingredients and stir continuously until it becomes a non sticky dough. (If it remains sticky then add a touch of flour until is right.)
- Take it out of the bowl and knead it for a couple of minutes until is the perfect consistency.
- Add the drops of glycerin (optional)
- To add coloring without much mess, make a hole in the center of the dough, add the color and fold the dough over to close it. Put the mixture in a plastic bag and knead until the color is fully dissolved.
- Take it out of the bag , continue kneading and is ready!

Sometimes I use the cooking process and have find that the dough lasts longer. The method is simple but is better not to involve the children and to be sure that the dough has completely cool down before they can play with it.
Ingredients:
Same as above just add 2 cups of water instead of one and a half.
Method:
- Mix all ingredients in a sauce pan.
- Stir over medium heat for 3-5 minutes or until the mixture is pliable and is not sticky anymore.
- Allow to cool down , knead it for a couple of minutes and is ready!
The recipe makes enough for 2-4 children to play with. I keep it in the fridge in a air tight container and it last up to 4 months.
